Child Care Question

I have a question for all you moms and dads! :-) I have a friend who is pregnant, due in the fall I think. She is the main "bread-winner" in her family so she will have to continue working after the baby is born but has NO idea where to start looking for childcare. I thought if there's any group of people who might have some good ideas, it would be you! :-) She's open to a variety of options...nanny, daycare facility, home child-care, etc...

Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi April,
I think one of the best places to start when looking for daycare in Vancouver (I assume) is by calling the Child Care Resource and Referral Network at 800-446-1114 or go to www1.dshs.wa.gov/carechoices. They can provide her with daycare choices (facilities and home-based) based on where she lives, the hours she might need to keep the baby in daycare, cost, etc. If she is completely new to using daycare at all, she should also check out some of the many websites out there with advice on what to look for in a daycare, questions to ask, etc. A good website we found is www.childcareaware.org. While I was working fulltime in DT Portland, we had Anna & Ryan in a daycare center in Orchards - Image Child Care. It is part of the SW Washington Child Care Consortium so they can work with people at all different income levels if that is a concern. We chose them because they were a fabulous facility with wonderful teachers and directors who really care about and work well with the kids, but most of all because they have GREAT hours (5:15 am - 7:30pm) so if your friend works non-traditional hours, this is an awesome place for that.
I've also had friends who found great nannies on Craigslist.
Anyway, hope that helps a little.
