Children's Museum

I hope all of you had as much fun at the Children's Museum as I did! Feel free to leave comments attached to this blog with your child's favorite memory from our trip. It would be a great way to share with each other! You don't have to have an account to post, just post annonymous if you want.

Here's the photos! Enjoy!

Tuesday Trip

Kazoodles

Just FYI, if you shop at Kazoodles, let them know you are with Little Acorn and they will give 10% of your purchase to our school!

In line with this, don't forget to clip your box tops!

Thanks for helping our school!

Father's Breakfast

I hope that many of you dads are planning on coming to the breakfast this weekend! If you haven't gotten a chance to see our classroom yet, this will be a great chance to do so. Breakfast is from 9-10 am and when you are finished eating, you are welcome to visit our class with your child.

If you are planning on attending, please drop me a quick email to let me know so we can have a rough head count.

Hope to see you there!

And don't forget, our Children's Museum trip is tomorrow (Tuesday) and Wednesday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. We'll see you at the museum just before 10:00 am. Should be LOTS of fun! Call me if you have questions. My number is on your newsletter.

Still Having Sensory Fun!

Another fun day today! We popped bubblewrap with our feet and finger painted with feely, smelly paint. We took regular paint and mixed it with sand, shaving cream and mint extract. It was good to practice sharing our paint with each other!

Child Care Question

I have a question for all you moms and dads! :-) I have a friend who is pregnant, due in the fall I think. She is the main "bread-winner" in her family so she will have to continue working after the baby is born but has NO idea where to start looking for childcare. I thought if there's any group of people who might have some good ideas, it would be you! :-) She's open to a variety of options...nanny, daycare facility, home child-care, etc...

Any ideas? Thanks!

Dr. Seuss Week Details

I know this is about a month away but wanted to ask you with plenty of advance notice! :-) The week of Feb. 26 to March 2 is the week we celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday. We will be having pj parties on Thursday and Friday of that week.

I am looking for one parent to bring cupcakes on each of those days.

Also, I am looking for 2-3 parents each of those days who'd be willing to come in from 10:30-10:45 am to read stories to the kids in small groups.

If you're interested, let me know! :-)

Thanks!

Our Fun Thursday

Well I didn't get a chance to snap any photos today but wanted to let you know about a fun activity we did that wasn't on our schedule. With the week off for snow I backed our lessons up a week but we wouldn't have time for our cooking project next week with our museum trip so we did it today! Here's the yummy recipe:

Creamy Orange Dip

1/2 cup brown sugar

8 oz. cream cheese

1 tsp. vanilla

1 tsp. orange zest (we didn't use this much and it was still good)

Just mix it all together until smooth.

It was a tasty treat to go with our apples and as a spread for our bagels today and it was easy! Enjoy!

Don't forget, if you only attend class on Tuesday and Thursday, your next class is at the Children's Museum. I just realized that I forgot to pass out directions this week! With the week off last week I've been a little scatter-brained! You can go to their website for directions or if you know where the zoo is, the museum basically shares the parking lot with the zoo. We will meet there at 9:50 am. If you have not paid yet, please drop your money off on Friday or Monday.

Wednesday Class

I just knew the kids were going to love our volcano experiement and again today they did! Even the kids who saw it yesterday were thrilled to see it again. Before they knew we were going to do it, they were asking to! Always nice to find things that they enjoy! :-) We took photos of it yesterday so figured we'd go for video this time...

Also, here's some photos of our day....

Lastly, every boy in our class was cracking up over a silly Mr. Potato Head computer game. Here's a funny video of their laughter...

Tuesday Class

We had lots of fun today! You'll see photos of our volcano! Everyone had the opportunity to help with this activity. Some helped build the volcano with playdough. Others poured in baking soda or red food coloring. Then we all sat back and watched as I poured in the vinegar and the cheers errupted! You'll be able to tell how much fun they had with it in the photos. There are big smiles! :-)

Also, teacher Denise had fun helping the kids play "doctor." They gave each other shots, checked reflexes, looked in ears and eyes and gave bandages. It was cute! :-)

Here's some photos...

Monday, Jan 22 (And impt details)

It was good to be back after our long snow break! You probably noticed that the date of your newsletter this week was actually last week. I decided we'd just go ahead and do last week's plans this week.

IMPORTANT REMINDER:
Please make sure you sign up to attend the Children's Museum field trip and pay your fees this week. The cost is $4 per person (children and adults). I will be paying for the trip on my credit card so please give me cash or write a check out to me (April Nissen). Please sign up and pay by this Friday so I can prepare name tags over the weekend. I'm very excited that the Rainbow class will also be joining us! :-) Questions? Please don't hesitate to ask at school, give me a call or send me an email. And yes, the dates are Jan 30 and 31 and the days are TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY. Sorry for the confusion. I am apparently "date-challenged." :-) 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. We will meet there at 9:50 am.

Ok, now for the fun stuff!

Here's some photos of our day...

And here's a couple of fun videos!

This one is of the kids playing hide-n-seek in the playroom...

Here the kids are having snack. We always say thank you for our snack together and sometimes they carry the fun forward with silly thank you's. :-)

Wonderfully Wintery Wednesday

The kids were thrilled to see the snow today! We've been hoping for it all week this week and last week so it was a great day!

I found this cool idea to make ice paint in a magazine so we gave it a try this morning and the kids really had fun with it! You'll see them in the photos. Plus we learned about penguins today! Ask your kids how a penguin walks and where they live! :-)

Here's some fun photos...

Enjoying the Outdoors! Brrr....

Too Fun Tuesday!

We had a silly day today! We got to paint snow scenes with feathers! And even though it was cold, we enjoyed the great outdoors! Oh yeah, we played a silly game called "the Penguin Waddle Race." Everyone laughed while trying to hold a small ball between their knees while walking. :-)
Here's some fun photos!

Fun Friday!

We had fun with a frozen water balloon today! It was a cold game of hot potato with lots of cheers for all our friends! :-)

I borrowed a Thomas the Train book on CD from the library and the kids had fun gathering around and listening to the story while looking at the pictures and words in the book. You'll see them in the photos. :-)

The market continues to remain a fun and favorite activity!

Did you see the snow?

Did anyone see the snow today? We've been wishing for it all week long and I don't know about you, but at my house we got about 1/2 hour of it. :-)

Anyway, here's some fun photos of our day!

Fun with our new Market!

The kids are just loving our new market! They've also made comments about enjoying our new paint colors! Today several of them shared that they got new pjs for Christmas! I told them that sometime soon we'll have a pj party so they can show them off. :) I'm thinking maybe the week of Dr. Suess' bday (Mar. 2nd). I'll let you know more later.

Anyway, here's some photos of our day...

Some Things for the Sunshine Class

Happy New Year everyone! As I have been playing for this coming year, I realized we are in need of a few things...

For the last week in January we need either 1 baby formula can, 1 coffee can or one empty kleenex box per child. If you have any of these items, please bring them to school.

Thanks!

Looking forward to seeing everyone this week!
