I really wanted to get to a science activity today but we just ran out of time so here's a fun thought for something you can do at home. (I stole the idea from Teacher Laurel.)

Take out an apple and cut it in half. Talk with your kids about what they think will happen if we just let the apple sit out in the air. Ask your kids what color their blood is. They'll probably say red. Show them a vein and say that's their blood (or your blood) and it's actually blue underneath our skin. But when the blood comes out of our skin, it's red. It gets red when the oxygen in the air hits it. This is just like what happens to the apple. When you open it up, the skin is no longer protecting the inside and it turns brown. Let the apple sit out a while and then come back to look at it and talk about what happened. You can also talk about how bikes left outside often get rusty. Similar idea. Have fun!
